OUR MP
In his maiden speech, our MP outlined his belief in the rule of law and human rights. He also seems to have been a local councillor who wanted the best for his community.
Then in his role as trade minister, Jayawardena called the UK a “global leader” in the pursuit of net zero. However, according to the monitoring website They Work for You, Jayawardena has since “consistently voted against measures to prevent climate change”. He opposes windfall taxes on energy companies suggesting that there had been “some scaremongering” about energy bill rises. Farmers are also reportedly alarmed at his disregard for standards in food production prioritising cheap imports over animal welfare and food quality.

We are a group of residents aiming to hold our MP to account on his record. We insist on honesty and evidence-based policies. We are just forming and need more members to join our core group to help spread this message.
Our MP is chair of Liz Truss's Conservative Growth Group, having been Environment Secretary in her short-lived administration. When we met with him, briefly, our impression confirmed our worst suspicions that he is complacent and ineffectual. We feel the constituency would be better with a new MP but in one of the safest Conservative seats in the country, it will be an uphill struggle.
