OUR MP

Mary Robinson is a Conservative MP who was a councillor before she became MP. She has a majority of 2336 and was elected in 2015. The seat was previously held by the Liberal democrats and is a marginal seat.

Like most Conservatives, she largely votes with the whip. She has made a special issue whistleblowing and is chair of the whistleblowing APPG. One of her five priorities is protecting green spaces, specifically local green belt land. She has also recently promoted the Government stance on our polluted rivers and the role of the water companies although she voted against the Labour amendment to the Environment Act that would have limited sewage dumping. She campaigned for and gained levelling up funding for reopening Cheadle Railway station, closed for passengers under Beeching in 1963

Her background is a law degree and running an accountancy firm with her husband.

Our Group

Cheadle MP Watch began in December 2023, instigated by local Cheadle constituents.

We are small in number and at present meet irregularly though we will be increasing our action towards the election. We are linking with other environmental groups in Cheadle. We would love new members.

We are also monitoring the work of the other party candidates for the constituency, specifically Tom Morrison for Liberal democrats for whom net zero is not one of his five priorities although he is against sewage dumping locally by United Utilities and David Meller for Labour.
